Sweet and Sour Tilapia

13 06 2008

These past few days, I’ve been craving for sweet and sour fried fish. I then remember how my mother-in-law used to make this dish every once in a while. So when I did my grocery a few days ago, I bought 2 frozen pack of tilapias home. Made the call to her yesterday and she was kind enough to share with me another one of her recipes. Note that I have modified some of the ingredients (she uses thin slices of garlic and mix of water and tapioca starch to thicken the sauce), because I don’t have some of the ingredients.

Stir Fry Rice Cake

3 06 2008

When I used to live in San Francisco, there was a Shanghai restaurant 2 blocks away from my apartment, where I always get the Stir Fry Rice Cake. In Chinese, they call it Nian Gao. It was so delicious that there was a time when I would have it every week. Today, I tried to cook something similar to it, and the result was yummy. Andrew ate a lot of it too.

Steamed Ginger Garlic Pomfret

28 05 2008

When I was pregnant with Andrew, I often ate this dish. My mom thought me how to cook this very simple dish. Since we moved to the US, I haven’t been cooking any fish at all. Per Rina, my good friend’s request, today, I am posting my first fish dish in the US to add up to my recipes’ collection. Andrew loves this dish so much that he ate almost the whole one side of the fish.

Salt and Pepper Pork Ribs

When I went to Albertson last week, they had the boneless pork ribs on sale, so I bought a pack home. I cooked some using the ready made Korean BBQ Sauce the other day and today, I made the Salt and Pepper Pork Ribs.

Oma’s Steak (Bistik Oma)

12 05 2008

I actually started writing this recipe last Friday, but didn’t have the chance to post it because we were busy packing for our weekend at Disneyland. I will write a separate posting on our Disneyland trip. Anyway, I got this recipe from my mother-in-law and she got it from her mother (Arman’s Oma), so it’s a family recipe. This is another type of homemade steak that we love. You enjoy it with the crispy fried potatoes (like potatoes chips) and side boiled carrots. I modified the original recipe a bit (use 2 pieces of tomatoes instead of 6, add sugar to the sauce and steam the carrots instead of boil).

Tempeh Orek Miss Cen Cen

7 05 2008

Tempeh, one of the most popular food in Indonesia, is the main ingredient of my recipe today. The original recipe came from a good girlfriend of mine, Cen Cen, the most stylish and smart young mommy with two most fashionable sons. :) Thanks for emailing this recipe to me. When I first introduced this dish to Andrew, he loves it so much. As expected by Cen Cen, I have modified the recipe a bit, since I don’t have some of the ingredients here. I have also modified the wording of tempe to tempeh as listed on Wikipedia. –Click here for full recipe of Tempeh Orek Miss Cen Cen!>
