Mama Bunga’s Macaroni Schotel

18 06 2008

During her pregnancy, my sister, Jq, craves for Macaroni Schotel. She asked me for the recipe, but I didn’t have any. I then remembered how my mother-in-law used to make Macaroni Schotel. The one that I remembered very vividly was the time when Arman’s late grandpa celebrated his birthday. My mother-in-law was so dearly, considering Arman’s late grandpa’s diabetic condition, she made a Macaroni Schotel instead of sweet birthday cake for him. That way, he could make a wish and blow a candle. So a few days ago, I called her and asked her for the recipe. I have modified the original recipe by eliminating slices of ham and corned beef and replacing sweet condensed milk with sugar. This is really good, I can imagine how it would be more tasty with slices of ham and corned beef. Andrew likes this too. :)

Sweet and Sour Tilapia

13 06 2008

These past few days, I’ve been craving for sweet and sour fried fish. I then remember how my mother-in-law used to make this dish every once in a while. So when I did my grocery a few days ago, I bought 2 frozen pack of tilapias home. Made the call to her yesterday and she was kind enough to share with me another one of her recipes. Note that I have modified some of the ingredients (she uses thin slices of garlic and mix of water and tapioca starch to thicken the sauce), because I don’t have some of the ingredients.

Oma’s Steak (Bistik Oma)

12 05 2008

I actually started writing this recipe last Friday, but didn’t have the chance to post it because we were busy packing for our weekend at Disneyland. I will write a separate posting on our Disneyland trip. Anyway, I got this recipe from my mother-in-law and she got it from her mother (Arman’s Oma), so it’s a family recipe. This is another type of homemade steak that we love. You enjoy it with the crispy fried potatoes (like potatoes chips) and side boiled carrots. I modified the original recipe a bit (use 2 pieces of tomatoes instead of 6, add sugar to the sauce and steam the carrots instead of boil).

Here is another recipe from my mom-in-law. When I first tried this dish, I love it right away. And looks like, Andrew loves it too. So this is one of the recipes that I managed to get from her before we left Jakarta. –Click here to see the full recipe!>

Shrimp and Pork Gravy over Crispy Noodle (Ta Mie ala Mama Bunga)

1 04 2008

The original recipe comes from my mother-in-law. She makes this dish usually on certain occasion like birthdays. All of us love it a lot. Before we moved to the US, I was able to get the recipe from her but didn’t manage to get the exact measurement. So here is the recipe with my measurement slightly different in taste from hers. Tomato Soup (Sop Merah)

13 03 2008

I adopted this recipe from my mother-in-law. Arman always loves his mom’s ‘Sop Merah’, but today, because of the limited ingredients, I have created my own Tomato Soup using pork instead of chicken. Even though, it doesn’t taste the same, but Arman thought it was good. I actually love it, especially that I am a tomato lover. Read the rest of this entry »
