Mama Bunga’s Macaroni Schotel

During her pregnancy, my sister, Jq, craves for Macaroni Schotel. She asked me for the recipe, but I didn’t have any. I then remembered how my mother-in-law used to make Macaroni Schotel. The one that I remembered very vividly was the time when Arman’s late grandpa celebrated his birthday. My mother-in-law was so dearly, considering Arman’s late grandpa’s diabetic condition, she made a Macaroni Schotel instead of sweet birthday cake for him. That way, he could make a wish and blow a candle. So a few days ago, I called her and asked her for the recipe. I have modified the original recipe by eliminating slices of ham and corned beef and replacing sweet condensed milk with sugar. This is really good, I can imagine how it would be more tasty with slices of ham and corned beef. Andrew likes this too. :)

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups of macaroni

4 pieces of sausages – cut into 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 cm dices

1/2 can of spam – cut into 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 cm dices

12 pieces of eggs – beaten

1.5 teaspoon of salt

1.5 teaspoon of sugar

pepper

a pinch of nutmeg

2 handful of shredded monterey jack & cheddar cheeses

INSTRUCTIONS:

First soak the macaroni in a bowl of water for about 10 minutes. Then boil until cook, put into a strainer and pour a cold water to avoid the macaroni sticking on each other. In a separate bowl, beat all the eggs, add sugar, salt, pepper and nutmeg, then beat again until all mixed well. You can also replace the sugar with sweet condensed milk. In a baking plate (I used pyrex), mix the macaroni with sausages and spam meat. Then pour the seasoned beaten eggs until the mix macaroni-sausages-spam covered. Put a handful of shredded cheese then steam for about 15 minutes. Put another handful of shredded cheese then bake in 350 degree Fahrenheit for another 15-20 minutes. Let it cool, then cut into desired size. Ready to serve!

Esther, shredded monterey jack & cheddar cheeses itu keju apa ? Di Indo ada gak ?
Terus kalo SPAM yang biasa Esther pake itu yg tipe apa ? Soalnya pengen nyoba beli SPAM di Indo, tp bingung, belinya yg tipe apa, soalnya ada beberapa macam. Kalo mau nyoba pake kalengan Ma Ling , kuatir juga karena beberapa waktu yg lalu pernah dapat email ttg Ma Ling yang di recall.

btw ‘monterey jack’ maksudnya apa ya ….. tuh kan bingung???

Sounds great! I think I’ll try it on my grandson tonite,But what language are you commenting in ? What ethnic dish is this so if I add it to my recipes of different cultures I know how to address this one?

@ LT: Hi LT, kejunya itu boleh ditukar dengan keju kraft batangan yang lebih gampang dicari. Spam emang sekarang udah banyak jenisnya, ada yang smoke, ada yang lite juga, aku sih pake yang biasa aja, yang original. Oh yah Ma Ling di recall yah? Kenapa?

@ Lia: Hei Lia, sorry nih untuk sementara baru sanggup bikin postingan dalam bahasa Inggris aja dulu. Belum dua bahasa deh, maklum ini aku kerjain sebagai selingan aja. Moga2 in the future bisa kesampean yah. Keju itu kan ada berbagai macam, kaya cheddar, swiss, monterey jack, itu adalah nama2 jenis keju. Kalo di supermarket, bagian keju pasti ada berbagai jenis2 seperti itu. Kalo mau ganti kejunya cukup dengan keju kraft batangan juga boleh.

@ Felicia: Spam itu mirip Ma Ling, tapi menurut gua sih enakan Spam yah. Biasanya di supermarket ada tuh di bagian2 ham or kaleng2an gitu.

i loooove macaroni schotel. tp dipanggang, ga di-steam. i didn’t know you can steam it. my recipe only uses 5 eggs, punya kamu 12 ya. banyak bgt…

dulu waktu masih makan daging, macaroni schotel wajib, mesti, harus pake corned beef, yummy yummy. skrg ga pake daging, rasanya kurang mantap deh :(

@ Fi: Iya Fi, disteam then di bake. Waktu sebelum tanya resep ama mertua, aku juga kirain ini di bake doang, ternyata disteam juga. Iya aku pake 12 eggs, soalnya biar ke cover semua adonan macaroni-spam-sausage nya. Harusnya kalo pake corned beef emang lebih enak yah. :)

@ Keyra: Hi Keyra, welcome to my blog. Kalo menurut aku sih rasanya akan sama, cuma aja kalo dikukus dulu, kita bisa pastiin kalo semuanya udah mateng. Tujuan di bake biar luarnya agak2 crispy. Silahkan dicoba yah!
