Tempeh Orek Miss Cen Cen
7 05 2008Tempeh, one of the most popular food in Indonesia, is the main ingredient of my recipe today. The original recipe came from a good girlfriend of mine, Cen Cen, the most stylish and smart young mommy with two most fashionable sons.
Thanks for emailing this recipe to me. When I first introduced this dish to Andrew, he loves it so much. As expected by Cen Cen, I have modified the recipe a bit, since I don’t have some of the ingredients here. I have also modified the wording of tempe to tempeh as listed on Wikipedia.
INGREDIENTS:
1 pack of tempeh (I used the one with a net weight of 315gr - see picture) - cut into 1/2 x 1/2 x 3 cm size
Vegetable oil for deep frying
2 cloves of shallots
1 clove of garlic
4 teaspoons of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons sweet soy sauce
pepper
INSTRUCTIONS:
First deep fry the cut tempeh until it becomes crispy. I remember Cen Cen used to tell me that you will know that it is crispy enough when you pour it to a bowl and it make the ‘ting ting ting’ sounds.
Once deep fried, set it aside.
Put together the brown sugar, garlic and shallots then grind them together until well blended.
Heat up a pan, put in one tablespoon of vegetable oil, then pour in the mixed brown sugar, garlic and shallots. Stir fry until the sweet fragrant smell comes out. Then add the sweet soy sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Mix all together, then pour in the previously deep fried tempeh and blend it all together. Ready to serve.

Ther ini mirip ama yang biasanya orek tempe ama kentang itu yah? gw biasanya bikin ama kentang diiris tipis2, tapi ditambahin tamarind waktu masaknya, jadi asem manis
Oh ya, biasa gw kasih juga cabe biar pedes dikit2…hahaha…

@ Pucca: Benernya resep asli dari Cen Cen juga pake irisan cabe dan dia juga mengusulkan boleh pake kacang kalo doyan. Berhubung gua bikin ini biar Andrew juga bisa ikut nyemil, ngga pake cabe deh. Kalo kacang, Arman ngga doyan. Hehehehe.

hihi…resep tempe gua di posting with my name on it juga…..hahaha….bikin malu aja. Gua kan ‘pemalu’ lo, huahahaa. Emang bener…mesti ada irisan cabe nya n kacang goreng nya.
