Parenting Class Part I

22 11 2009

Hi all….it’s been a really long time since I updated this blog. I know that I kept on saying that I will update it but yet never did. It’s not that Arman didn’t let me use the computer, in fact, I monopolize the computer most of the time. And it’s not because Arman doesn’t take us to new restaurants anymore, cause he does. We continue taking pictures of food at the new restaurant but yet I still do not feel like writing the reviews. Read the rest of this entry »

Panko Fried Shrimp

Puff…..puff…..this blog is too dusty as it’s been a really long time since my last update. Sorry, folks, I had too much things on my hand. I’ve been busy with my new cakes and cupcakes boutique, Bite ‘N Bite. On top of that, we had my mom who visited us this Summer, and our short trip to San Francisco. But now I am back and today I am going to share with you a new recipe that I did. Here it goes! Crunchy and yummy! :)

INGREDIENTS:

FOR THE SHRIMP: 500 gr of medium size shrimps – peel off the skin, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 pieces of lime, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, vegetable oil for deep frying, 100 gr of all purpose flour, 100 gr of bread crumb, 2 pieces of eggs – beaten

FOR THE DIPPING SAUCE: 4 tablespoons mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of hot sauce, 1 piece of lime

INSTRUCTIONS:

Soak the shrimps with soy sauce, lime and garlic powder for about 15 minutes. Heat up a pan with vegetable oil for deep frying. Coat each one of the shrimp with all purpose flour first. Dip it to the beaten egg and lastly coat with the bread crumb. Then deep fry until each turn golden. For the sauce, simply mix all the ingredients together. Ready to serve! Enjoy!

Restaurant Review: Typhoon

13 05 2009

Typhoon

On May 10, Arman took us out to a unique restaurant called Typhoon to celebrate mother’s day. Arman had been to this restaurant twice and thought that it was quite unique and that Andrew and I should experience it. Two days before, we made the reservation online through Open Table, just to make sure that we would get seats. Even though Arman had recommended those food that he loved from this restaurant, but, I still did my research by going to Yelp. After looking at the foods pictures that people took at Typhoon, I told Arman that I wasn’t sure that I wanted to eat those kind of foods. Those foods shown on Yelp are made of variety of insects from crickets, ants, etc. Arman convinced me that they have other menus and that we are going to strictly order the non-insects ones. 4. Content of the book – Do you think the recipe book should have only certain category such as Appetizers, Soups, Entrees, Desserts or mix of all?

5. Please share more factors that affect you in buying recipe books.

Restaurant Review: Wurstkuche

Wurstkuche

Recently, I joined the LA Tasting Table’s mailing list where I get emails every now and then on the featured restaurants. One of the email that attracted us was the one that featured Wurstkuche, an exotic sausage grill restaurant in downtown LA. All the three of us, Arman, Andrew and myself love sausages, so we thought we should try this. Read the rest of this entry »

Restaurant Review: Swanya Thai Cuisine

6 05 2009

swanya

There was a new restaurant opened in Culver City, the name of the restaurant is Swanya. It was opened next to the Swanya Thai Massage, and judging from the name, I think they are both under the same owner or management. The restaurant wasn’t really big, just a moderate size. The menu was double sided and laminated. They have only 1 waitress who wasn’t too friendly. Read the rest of this entry »

For our Anniversary this year, we didn’t have the chance to do our annual tradition of going away. So to celebrate, we decided to have a lunch at Chan Dara. Arman had tried this restaurant with his colleague before and thought it was pretty good.

Birthday Cupcakes

5 05 2009

Few weeks ago, I had the chance to learn Wilton cake decorating using fondant and gum paste. The classes meet 4 times of 2 hours each. Even though I came in with a very minimum experience on baking, I had fun and learned many things….and of course spent a lot of money on the tools too. :P

Yesterday, on Arman’s birthday, since we didn’t manage to go to Disneyland due to Andrew’s illness, I decided to bake some cupcakes and decorated them. This is my first project since I finished my course, hopefully I can do a lot better next time. Here are some pictures that I like to share, let me know what do you think of it considering I am a newbie in this field. :P

PS: Special thanks for Arman who has been very supporting through out my courses. From paying the course, buying the tools, taking care of Andrew while I am in class and throwing me ideas on how to decorate them. Thanks to Andrew for saying that all cakes that I made are pretty, you keep me motivated, baby! Also thank you to Wenping, Shinta and Angel who have been very helpful and kindly shared tips and information. I have much to learn from you all.
