Giant Tortilla Quiche

14 05 2008

When I celebrated my birthday at Disneyland this past weekend, I was told that I can get a free bag of flour tortillas from the famous Mission factory inside the California Adventure. From there not only that I got free bag of flour tortillas, I also got myself a Mission recipe book. In the book, it has one recipe that I wanted to much to try, but since I have limited ingredients in my fridge, I modified the original recipe.

Yesterday, Sunday, May 11, 2008, was both Mother’s Day and my Birthday. I had a great blast of a day, well…actually not just a day, it was two days. Yeah, this past weekend, Saturday and Sunday, we went to Disneyland and the California Adventure to celebrate Arman’s birthday, my birthday and Mother’s Day. :) Anyway, happy belated Mother’s Day to all mothers around the world.

Oma’s Steak (Bistik Oma)

12 05 2008

I actually started writing this recipe last Friday, but didn’t have the chance to post it because we were busy packing for our weekend at Disneyland. I will write a separate posting on our Disneyland trip. Anyway, I got this recipe from my mother-in-law and she got it from her mother (Arman’s Oma), so it’s a family recipe. This is another type of homemade steak that we love. You enjoy it with the crispy fried potatoes (like potatoes chips) and side boiled carrots. I modified the original recipe a bit (use 2 pieces of tomatoes instead of 6, add sugar to the sauce and steam the carrots instead of boil).

Lomie

8 05 2008

This is a quick dish for noodle fans. The difference of Lomie compare to other noodle is in the soup. It uses a beaten egg, pour into the hot soup. In the old days, I remember my mom used to make this for us and of course she uses her homemade noodle too. The vegetable that goes well with this dish is the Chinese Cabbage called Choy Sum. But since I don’t have it handy today, I substituted it with Scallion. This recipe serves for 3 people and to be eaten while hot.

Tempeh Orek Miss Cen Cen

7 05 2008

Tempeh, one of the most popular food in Indonesia, is the main ingredient of my recipe today. The original recipe came from a good girlfriend of mine, Cen Cen, the most stylish and smart young mommy with two most fashionable sons. :) Thanks for emailing this recipe to me. When I first introduced this dish to Andrew, he loves it so much. As expected by Cen Cen, I have modified the recipe a bit, since I don’t have some of the ingredients here. I have also modified the wording of tempe to tempeh as listed on Wikipedia. –Click here for full recipe of Tempeh Orek Miss Cen Cen!>

Restaurant Review: Todai

5 05 2008

On May 4, 2008, we went to Todai to celebrate Arman’s birthday. We went to the one at Beverly Center. When we got there, around noon, the restaurant was about half full. I told the waitress that today is Arman’s birthday, and she told me that by showing a valid picture ID, Arman can get a voucher that would entitled him for a free lunch good for future visit. In addition, he will also get a small birthday cake. More for you to read, just click here!
